World Martial Arts: Hap-Ki-Do

Hap·Ki·Do is a Korean Mixed Martial art that combines 7 major technique areas including: strikes, blocks, holds, throws, weapons, internal techniques and healing. Hapkido philosophy, emphasizes the integration of mind, body and spirit.

Hapkido utilizes about 1100 core techniques, which are intuitively modified or combined to create thousands of variations. The art is extremely practical and versatile. Hapkido’s range of techniques were largely developed for self-defense and to provide a frame work for the perfection of character by integrating mental, physical, and spiritual values.

Physical techniques are characterized by a constant flow of striking, blocking, holding and throwing techniques. Constant motion and fluid circular movements are designed to blend with an opponent’s force.

Make Your Own Comic Book!

Creating a comic book is a group effort.  Instructor Dan Levin will take you through all the steps: writing the script, preparing the story board, outlining, inking, etc.  You will end up with a unique comic book creation that you can proudly display to all your friends.   Take your ideas! Add your drawing skills! And Create your very own Comics!  In this class you will learn and improve basic comic creating skills including drawing figures and backgrounds, creating storyboards and concepts and producing and even publishing your finished product!

Instructor Daniel Levin

 

Daniel Levin is an interdisciplinary artist, illustrator, and designer currently centered out of Manhattan with ongoing projects both domestic and abroad. His recent work includes illustration for Jon Favreau’s forthcoming feature, Cowboys and Aliens, starring Harrison Ford; design for Plant Music/WESC collaboration; graphic design for Vans x Claw Money; and album cover art for Keon NoLoveLost.  He is currently illustrating for Klatsch Magazine and Editor-In-Chief of The CCNY EDM Publication and Smarts G Quarterly. As a muralist, his work is on showcase both locally and abroad. Recent mural work includes the Waterfront Concert Hall (Belfast, Ireland.)

Along the way you will learn how an advertising agency really works, analyze commercials you love and love to hate, figure out what works and what doesn’t, and find out if you have what it takes to make it in the cut-throat world that is the $300 billion dollar advertising industry.

Lisa Mayer is a CLIO-award winning creative director and copywriter, formerly with Ogilvy and DDB– the hottest shops on Madison Avenue, who for fifteen years worked on everything from American Express to Hershey’s to Hasbro to Volkswagen.  Lisa has taught advertising at the School of Visual Arts and to young people at various schools and camps including The Challenge Camp in Tuckahoe, NY.

Three Convenient Sessions!

The Clubhouse Camp dates for 2013 are July1 to August 9.

Session 1 runs from July 1 to July 12.

Session 2 runs from July 15 to July 26.

Session 3 runs from July 29 to August 9.

 

The camp day begins at 9:oo a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The full summer cost is $2, 550.  The cost for any two sessions is $1,900.  The cost for a single session is $1,050.

There will be no camp on July 4th in observance of the holiday.

Boys and girls will work up a sweat while learning and perfecting the Baby Swipes, Cee-Cees, 7-step, 6-step, 5-step, 4-step, 3-step, 2-step, drops, Dolphin, Up-Rocking and Top-Rocking, Knee Drop, Kip Up, Basic Handstand Freezes, Threading, Baby Freeze, Chair Freeze and Combinations. More advanced students will also learn Advanced Top-Rocking, Windmill, Hand-glide, L-Kick and other handstand freezes, Floor Freezes and combos, Advanced Footwork combos, Haloback, One-Legged and Two- Legged Swipes, Coindrop and more!
